GETTING THERE //
I came across Ruby Beach on Instagram after searching places within Olympic National Park. So after spending the morning wandering around the HOH Rainforest, we made the quick drive to Ruby, which is about 30 miles south of Forks, Washington along Highway 101. We parked at the lot and made the hidden, but easy 5 minutes walk down the maritime forest onto the beach. I'm not usually a beach go-er. Sure, it's great to relax a couple of days, but I have a hard time sitting still, and my pale skin can't sit in the sun for long. I knew as soon as I saw this beach that I could spend a couple of hours climbing the rock formations and logs.
EXPLORING //
There are endless trees stripped of their bark and bleached by the sun, resting in the piles that you can walk over and under. The air was a bit misty, chilly and full of salt. We walked around, explored the different areas of the beach and claimed a spot on one of the giant logs. We put down our stuff and decided we'd see who could find the most interesting piece of driftwood. We took lots of photos and watched the kids run around.
Just before leaving we sat on the rocks along the shoreline and listened to the soothing sound of the ocean. Something that never gets old.
There isn't a lot to do around this area, so if you find yourself in the HOH Rainforest, Olympic National Park or Forks, Washington, I'd highly recommend adding Ruby Beach to the list. The rocky, log covered, coastal views are unforgettable.
